After his debut single,
Bageya, was published in 1999 at Hills Studio in Nairobi, Jose Chamelone's
music career took off.

popular in Kenya. His debut album, Mama Mia, which was also the name of his
breakout single that became popular in 2001, came after it.
While Shanks Vivid Gumaras'
backup vocalist, he had the chance to visit Kenya.
When Kenyan hip-hop trio
Kalamashaka arrived in Kampala to play, Shanks asked Chameleone to do a
freestyle for them, and they were immediately captivated. They would have
invited him to Kenya to record a song with him, but it never materialized,
leaving Chameleone stranded in Nairobi and forced to find a means of
subsistence.
