The Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) met with
city DJs on Tuesday, which was marked by furious outbursts, accusations and
counter-accusations over the working relationship between musicians and DJs.At
a conference scheduled to review and simplify DJs' work and collaboration with
musicians, tempers rose as federation leaders led by President Eddy Kenzo
attempted to address the DJs' complaints.
Near the end of the meeting, Federation Vice President
Sheebah Karungi exchanged words with meeting emcee DJ Nimrod, who repeatedly
stopped her speech and urged her to take her seat.Sheebah was having none of it
and confronted the Galaxy FM DJ, asking that he stop interrupting her and
respect the Federation leadership.
"I am the vice president here, sir; please respect
me." "I'm still talking, and you keep interrupting me," the
'Muwomya' singer snarled as she strode toward Nimrod.
"We've been silently listening to you; you should be
quiet and listen to me."
Nimrod, stunned, did not answer, allowing her to continue
with her presentation.

During the two-hour discussion, DJs expressed their
concerns about harassment by musicians, with several recounting their own
traumatic experiences of assault and nonpayment by some of the industry's
biggest names.
One of the Alan DJs told the group that artists had
damaged some of his colleagues' laptops.
Another DJ accused Sheebah of exploiting her services and
failing to pay him.
She apologized and offered to return all of his money.
During the meeting, the DJs elected a committee of their
peers to form an association that will join the Federation.
Later that evening, the UNMF met with Hon. Nobert Mao, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, to review progress on the copyright law.
