For more over two years, the Leone Island leader had
complained of stomach trouble, and doctors had repeatedly encouraged him to
have surgery.
His illness worsened on his journey to America last
month, and upon admittance, he was discovered to have a gallbladder disease,
which caused bile to leak into his gut.
The musician visited the United States in mid-June 2023
before heading to Jamaica with his son Abba, who had recently graduated from
high school.
In the Caribbean country, the father and son visited,
among other places, Bob Marley's former home in Kingston, Jamaica, which also
housed his studio and is now a museum. When he returned to the United States,
he was reportedly transported to a hospital in Minnesota for emergency surgery.
According to individuals close to him in the US, he was then hit with a hospital bill in excess of UShs 370 million.
Gravity claimed in a phone call with Bukedde TV that he
was looking for Chameleone and that his management told him the icon was in the
US but not feeling well.
Chameleon is said to have sought out to Prime Minister
Robinah Nabbanja for assistance with the Bill.
On Wednesday, June 5, the government-owned Bukedde daily
paper stated, citing sources that Chameleon’s fellow musicians and close
friends in Kampala were behind the talks to collect funding for the hospital
bill from the government.
